Dr. Hanif Kanji, BMSc(Hons), MB BChir (Cantab), MBA
Dr. Hanif Kanji qualified as a medical doctor and practiced briefly prior to making a transition to investment banking, a career which spanned eleven successful years with major international banks working in the field of corporate finance, derivatives and asset management.
With Prudential-Bache Capital Funding he worked in both their London and New York offices, in European Corporate Finance.
After obtaining his MBA he was hired by Société Générale (SG) in Paris. He was soon transferred to Hong Kong, where he set up the bank’s non-equity derivatives desk covering non-Japan Asia where he was solely responsible for generating over 50% of his global team’s revenue for several years. He was also involved in the growth of the listed warrant market in Hong Kong, now one of the world’s largest, where he collaborated with the equity derivatives team to list warrants on currencies and commodities.
Having left SG, he also spent some time in asset management with The Philippa Huckle Group, a private client asset manager – first as Head of Client Strategy and then as Head of Portfolio Management. The firm had over US$100m of assets under management.
On leaving banking, Dr Kanji has been involved in healthcare consulting and investment, combining the skills he gained both as a doctor and banker. As CEO of Sinophi Healthcare Partners, he advises companies and governments on healthcare strategy, operations and finance and is viewed as a thought leader in the field, speaking at several international conferences in the region. Lately he has been raising capital to invest in the private healthcare space in China.
Dr. Kanji holds a medical degree from Cambridge University in the UK and a Masters in Business Administration from The Wharton School of The University of Pennsylvania, USA. He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) and is Co-Chairman of the Insurance and Healthcare Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong.
